Hey, hey, HVC families!
We’ve been having some hot, hot weather here at HVC, which has inspired me to get a chic, short, new summer haircut. It is shockingly difficult finding gopher stylists around here! As for the campers hydrating, staying in the shade, and wearing plenty of sunscreen have been getting us through this Maine heatwave.
In other news, Hidden Valley Adventures (HVA), one of our teen programs have been out and about across Maine. HVA is thriving! Due to an initial positive covid test the group got off to a slow start and has been on the move ever since.
They enjoyed a 5 day canoe trip on Cupsuptic Lake, Mooselookmeguntic Lake, and on Upper and Lower Richardson Lakes, seeing eagles and paddling over 40 miles.
Day trips have included hiking and swimming in Camden Hills and a sea kayaking trip from lobster boat-filled Owls Head Harbor to Owls Head Light & Cliffs, nearby.
Currently the group is in Baxter State Park where they will attempt to climb Mt Katahdin, Maine’s highest point. Later in the session, white water rafting and rock-climbing are on tap.
Out of all of us, HVA might be staying the coolest, exploring so many beautiful bodies of water around Maine!
Here at camp, classes have been continuing. Last night, the evening program was electives, which included glass blowing, capture the flag, and s’mores! Tonight, we’re looking forward to a scavenger hunt.
More to come!
XOXO,
Gopher Girl
