Hello to all of you HVC families! Here is your orientation day update:
Around here, today has been marked by excited campers and beautiful weather. Our campers have arrived from all over the world, coming by cars, buses, and planes (and I’m hoping maybe even submarines). Regardless of how they got here, I am overjoyed to have them join us in this little slice of paradise.
Opening Night Skitz, our evening entertainment last night, introduced them to all of our counselors and all of the classes they may choose from tomorrow at class signups. The basketball team, photography, glass lessons, archery, and of course anything at the lake (fun!) deserve special mention as some of the campers’ favorite classes.
We gathered outside the Rec Hall, where the descendants of the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf led us through the variety of classes that HVC has to offer in a fairytale style with hilarious jokes and great costumes included. I’m just wondering with all these animals in the skit, why wasn’t a gopher included? I’m a shoe-in for the part!
Today for orientation day we’ll have a chance to sign up for all of these awesome activities, plus go for a dip in lake for our swim evaluations and get a tour of camp. It will be a busy day, but also full of time to unpack, settle in, and get to know our cabin mates for the next month.
Tonight our evening program will be Pinegrove. We will all climb to the top of the camp hill to gather around a fire, sing songs, perform skits, and get excited for what’s ahead.
It is a beautiful day here at HVC, and I, for one, am so excited to see campers new and returning. Maybe some will even leave me some food scraps in the backyard!
XOXO,
Gopher Girl
