Moonwalking Our Way to the Space Dance

Sunday, July 31st, 2022

Hey there HVC families!

Happy Bagel Sunday!

Yesterday we had a wonderful space-themed dance! Campers danced the night away along with enjoying “Space (Face) Painting,” hula-hooping using Saturn’s rings, making up alien names, and doing “Space Jam” (basketball).

We had some visitors today on our lazy day at HVC. Chewonki came to camp! Chewonki is a school, camp, and environmental education organization based in Wiscasset, Maine. They do outreach to the surrounding area, including presentations about the creatures we share Maine with and creatures from abroad. They brought live snakes, spiders, and skinks! I learned that (fun fact) a lobster is a bug. These presentations took place after lunch. This morning campers engaged in various activities around the pool!

This evening for evening program we’ll be having Bryson Lang, a comedian, visit HVC. We can’t wait to have a good laugh this evening after a long lazy day.

Tomorrow we will be back on for more classes. I, personally, cannot wait for another day of my own personal burrowing and sleeping classes! Maybe I’ll join the blueberry field fun and make my hole out there.

All around, it was a fabulous day! Don’t forget to check out the photos!

Seven more days until our next Bagel Sunday!

XOXO,

Llivin’ it up at Llamapalooza

Saturday, July 30th, 2022

Good Morning HVC Families,

Yesterday campers kept it class-y during the day, and then had a blast at Llamapalooza in the evening after a fantastic dinner.

Llamapalooza included a variety of games including Dizzy Bat, where campers had to spin around a pool noodle ten times and then pour and carry an entire cup of water across the grass without spilling, as well as catching water balloons on a tarp, and trying to make one of the counselors llaugh.

Campers traveled with their cabin around to all of the different activities. At the end of the rotation, campers got to watch their counselors participate in a silly challenge, which involved hopping inside a trashbag to a bowl of Cheerios they had to eat without hands and the proceed to recite their ABC’s backwards after finishing their “breakfast.”

Today, campers will head back to their classes one more time before another Llazy Day, and end their night tonight with the space-themed dance, which is bound to be out of this world.

Not to mention, tomorrow is Bagel Sunday!

XOXO,

Gopher Girl

S’more Electives

Friday, July 29th, 2022

Happy Friday HVC Folks!

Apologies for the later blog today; I gnawed my way through some wires thinking they were roots, so we had some technical difficulties.

Campers had a lovely day of classes yesterday followed by a lovely bunch of interest groups.

For their evening program, they headed to electives, where they got to choose from a myriad of activities including Capture the Flag, Peter Kassen’s Secret Tour, Tie Dye, glass blowing, flameworking, breaking a Nalgene water bottle, musical theater sing along, Bob Ross painting, a campfire with s’mores, and more.

As an update, the break the Nalgene group was officially successful, and within the time constraint of the Electives period, was able to do what once was thought to be impossible, breaking both plastic and expectations.

Today, campers will head back to classes, and finish their evening with Llamapalooza, which is filled with stations of different activities in Deer Meadows field that will have campers running around and having a blast.

I, on the other hand, will head back to the gym, because that Capture the Flag game sparked the revelation that I am out of shape, and need to gopher a run more often if I am to be an asset to my capture the flag team on the next electives night.

XOXO,

Gopher Girl

Folk Music for the Folks at HVC

Thursday, July 28th, 2022

Good morning HVC families,

Campers had a terrific Tuesday here at camp enjoying their first lazy day at the movies and with “Adulting 101” activities.

Lazy Day Pool Activities

After dinner, they headed to watch Kim and Reggie’s performance in the backyard. The duo had the crowd singing and dancing song after song. This morning, they sang a final song at morning meeting to say goodbye and start the campers’ day off on a positive (and musical) note.

Today, campers head back to classes and end their night with the session’s first electives.

Electives are run by pro staff and counselors and are a variety of different activities that campers can choose from including Capture the Flag, glass work, art projects, and much more.

In addition, campers and gophers alike are beginning to formulate theories as to when Junk Food Day will be this session. Unfortunately, though he did briefly mention it in our meeting the other day, Peter did not reveal the exact date and thus I myself donut know when it will be.

In the meantime, I’ll be here…just thinking about PopTarts.

XOXO,

Gopher Girl
