An Incredible Summer!

Friday, August 20th, 2021

Hi All, Mag-O-Llama here!

After a beautiful, bittersweet departure day, HVC is empty, quiet and calm. We miss your spirit and energy already!

Read on for a message from Meg and Peter and scenes from camp this morning…

To All in the HVC Community,

We have concluded an amazing summer and will begin preparation for 2022 after a short break.

Keep your eyes on this space for updates and keep these words in mind…

“It is always so grounding to be here and reminds me of what is most important in life… Kindness, love, community, passion for life.”

This message came from a long-time staff member who was among the 40+ alums who spent some time at HVC giving us a hand this season. Our campers and staff understood all of this as well and we could not be happier… Meg and Peter

We’ll be in touch soon with more updates from camp and some highlights of this summer!

Till next time,

Mag-O-Llama signing out!

There Is No Goodbye Without a Lobster Banquet!

Thursday, August 19th, 2021

Good Morning HVC!

It’s Mag-O-Llama here with your daily update. It’s been a somber morning all throughout the camp, as departure day is upon us. I believe Taj Mahal said it best yesterday by saying, “don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” I think we are all feeling a sense of this as we part ways this morning. If you’re looking for a recap of what we got up to in the last 24 hours, keep reading:

Yesterday was full of packing things up and getting camp ready for us to head back to our homes today. Campers also had a closing activity with their cabins to close up the summer and celebrate everything that has been achieved as a cabin.

Later in the evening we had the most wonderful meal of all, the lobster banquet! It was so beautiful to enjoy a final meal together and participate in a tradition that means so much to us all. I also can’t forget to mention that there was SO MUCH ICE CREAM!!!

With the lobster banquet coming to a close, Chris and Lillian said their final goodbye to the campers  after 35 + years of making the most spectacular meals for us all. Words can not describe how much their meals have meant to us over the years. Check out some of the pictures below to see this special moment.

As always, we headed up to Pine Grove after our delicious meal to have a special moment of sharing songs, poems, and having a candle light ceremony to say goodbye to the friends new and old. As the night came to a close, you could feel all of the love that this community has for one another. It was truly a special sight.

As the sun rose this morning, Taj and Forbidden Planet woke the whole camp up with songs and chants, and we all gathered to send off the campers taking the bus home. Although it was sad, we did the funky chicken and remembered that we will always have this moment waiting for us again.

Check back tomorrow for a final post as we wrap up for the summer and get camp ready for the fall/winter months.

Peace, Love, and Llama Hugs,

Mag-O-Llama

Fair Day and All of It’s Glory!

Wednesday, August 18th, 2021

Good Afternoon wonderful folks of Hidden Valley!

It’s a hot and humid packing day here at HVC, and all through the camp there is a bittersweet feeling of camp coming to a close. As we wrap up and get ready for our final evening, I’d love to reflect and share some of the beautiful moments from yesterday’s activities.

There was excitement in the air from the very instant campers woke up, to the moment we got settled into our beds! The day started off with our annual “Fun Run” and 2/3 of the campers participated in the run this session! For those of you who have never participated in the Fun Run, Campers head up to the top of camp road and race down the road for the fastest times! Check out the pictures below to see the runners cross the finish line!

As the day continued, campers geared up for all of the fair day fun and set up their cabin booths to enjoy all of the festivities that the fair has to offer! There was a marriage booth, a name change booth, ice cream, iced drinks, hotdogs, fried dough, Kiss-O-Grams, and so much more that made the day incredibly special. Campers also got the opportunity to showcase all of the art/glass/pottery projects they have been working on all session! There are pictures below and I encourage you to check them out!

To end the evening, we had the Fair Day Dance! Campers were able to dance their hearts out one last time with their friends, and shouted song lyrics until the sun went down. Check out some of the pictures below to see the groovy moves.

Those are my updates from yesterday! Stay tuned for a post regarding packing day/departure coming soon!

Peace, Love, and Llama Hugs,

Something Rotten and the Brumby Horse show!

Tuesday, August 17th, 2021

Howdy HVC!

It’s Mag-O-Llama, and I’m going to start off by saying, wow, It’s such a beautiful morning here at HVC. The sun is shining, there’s a slight breeze, and the temperature is absolutely spot on! I have quite a few things to update you on, so let’s just jump right on into it.

Yesterday morning the whole camp had the privilege of watching the Brumby Horse show! These campers have dedicated a huge portion of their to taking care of the beautiful horses, and prepping them for main camp riding lessons! If you look at the pictures below, you will see their wonderful closing performance. It was truly a sight to see!

After the fantabulous show, we headed over to the pool for some pool activities with the whole camp! After the fun, we proceeded to do a cabin clean and get ourselves ready to pack up our things for our  departure coming in a couple short days. (Sad, I know)

If you didn’t think the day could get any more exciting, Younger and middle half campers saw a really cool traveling natural history program from Chewonki! The older half campers were able to have some hang out time by the basketball court. Fun was definitely had by all!

To end out the night, we saw the musical, “Something Rotten!” The campers who participated completely blew us away, and got the standing ovation they truly deserved! For those of you who have never heard of “Something Rotten,” It’s a musical comedy that’s a mash-up of sixteenth-century Shakespeare and twenty-first-century Broadway. It was the perfect way to end the already perfect night. Look at the pictures below to see the fun!

Those are my updates for today! Check back in tomorrow morning to get our final updates before departure day!

Peace, Love, and Llama Hugs
