Did Somebody Say Gruesome?!?

Thursday, July 30th, 2020

Good Afternoon my fellow HVC lovers! How are you feeling today? Did you eat breakfast? I sure hope so, because we have some really exciting videos to talk about today!!!!

Yesterday, Gruesome came out of retirement to talk with Pete about what they have been up too, and his vacation plans for the rest of the summer. They also speculated about possible Wheel of Misfortune activities and plots, as well as reminisced on old times and past Wheels. To watch the late wake up show video featuring Gruesome and Pete, click the link here!

Tomorrow is a very exciting day.. Do you know why?!? WE ARE RELEASING THE WHEEL OF MISFORTUNE VIDEO!! What do you think the theme will be? Can any of you guess? Like I mentioned last time we talked, the llama’s and I have been brainstorming a list of ideas that we thought the Wheel might be based off of, but after closer consideration, we have absolutely know idea what it could be! All we know is that it’s going to be AWESOME!!!

That’s all for today!

The Weekend Recap!

Tuesday, July 28th, 2020

Good Morning HVC! It’s Mag-O-Llama here to update you on some of the awesome things we did this weekend, as well as something exciting coming soon!!

This past weekend was filled with another pizza Sunday success, followed by the PD’s giving us some great resources about social intention from the National museum of African American History and Culture. If you have not yet watched the PD’s video regarding social intention when talking about race, you can click the link here!

Today, one of our legendary staff members from last summer, Bones, posted a video showing us how to stay fit while also having fun! If you want to get your heart pumping with Bones, click the link here!

In other news, we’ve been hearing a lot of things regarding the WHEEL from some of the humans on camp… and from what I’ve gathered.. the wheel is coming very soon!!! Some of the other llama’s and I have been trying to guess what the wheel will be about this summer.. and we came up with a small list of some ideas we had! Maybe the wheel will be about a chocolate bar gone rouge, or maybe it will be about a haunted pumpkin patch!! Either way, the hype burning inside of me is too much to handle, and I just can’t wait to find out what it will be about!!! I also heard recently that gruesome has just come back from a long vacation and might be making an appearance soon!

That’s about it for my weekend update! Until next time!

The Candidates Have Debated.. Who Are You Voting For?

Friday, July 24th, 2020

Good Afternoon, HVC!  It’s Mag-O-Llama, and I have an exciting announcement from the Barnyard today!!!!

Otis and Hamilton have posted their debate on all of our HVC social media channels, and the video is live for you to watch! If you have not seen the video yet, you can view it here!

Now that the debate has happened, there has been some talk between the animals regarding who they will be voting for at the end of the summer. The chickens have decided that they are going to be endorsing Hamilton, but the donkey is still questioning which way he will be leaning, along with the horses. There has been some lengthy discussions between the llama’s, as they are very divided in who they will be voting for. From what we can tell, this election is going to be a very close call and we are keeping our eyes peeled for any new updates that are coming along the way.

In other news, we will be doing another pizza Sunday this weekend, and the PD’s will be sharing some great resources from the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Those are all of my updates before we take a break for the weekend! We will be posting another blog on Monday to update you on our weekend, and all of the exciting things coming soon!

…………….

Dear Families,

Peter and Meg here with a mid-summer HVC update, also coming to families via email.

The two of us have continued to make the most of the newfound free time afforded us and we count ourselves among the most fortunate in the country as we are kept safe by Maine’s relatively sane response to the pandemic and the wide spaces HVC and our area provide.

Some of our neighbors are struggling, however. In response, the small group of 8-9 staff here has used the camp’s brick oven to make dozens of free pizzas for local families each Sunday afternoon. Some customers make donations which are matched by the camp, and these monies are going to a group that purchases produce from small farms nearby and brings it to local food pantries.

And so all of us have become that much more committed to supporting those outside our normally busy and intense summer “bubble.” This awareness is reflected in some of the social media posts we have been sharing with children and adults, and this pattern will continue. We know that school plans are up-in-the-air for many of our campers and so we will continue #athomewithHVC this fall after a short late-August break.

Our autumn season will be spent in much the same way as in the past, talking with families, recruiting staff and planning for Summer 2021. This will include detailed planning for whatever health and safety regimes are required. Our current “empty nest” season reminds us how much we value your children’s presence here – their joy, quirkiness, creativity and love of community life – and we are enthusiastically ramping up to a renewal of our time together.

In the meantime, long distance camp life goes on, and you can find lots at the HVC Blog – Instagram – Facebook – Youtube   We are also sending letters to each camper, starting with first session participants. The envelope coming your way has a note for campers (who may need a hand decoding our handwriting) as well as mementos from the ongoing election contest between Hamilton, an American Pigand Otis (the llama) for Potus.  Some things have changed but HVC remains as goofy as ever!

Missing you all,

Meg and Peter
