How’s it quackin’, blogland? Carolina here with the latest report from HVC Central! Today was another trip and a lazy day for various halves of camp, and I can’t wait to share photos of both of those with you tomorrow! But this evening, I wanted to share some pics of yesterday’s soccer game! The soccer team played their hearts out against a motley crew of other community-members and, following in the footsteps of the Argentine team in the South American Cup, ended up pulling out a 1-0 win.
And while I have your attention, are you aware of the fabulous experiences our teen programs have been having these last weeks? Hope to be able to get you some photos of them soon. Check out all that HVA, our outdoor adventure group, has done: they canoed 70 miles on the St. Croix River, during which time they saw no fewer than 37 bald eagles! They also hiked in Baxter State Park, including a mountain that allowed them to view the top of Mt. Katahdin. After that, they went sea kayaking–which they noted was substantially speedier than canoeing! On the agenda for today was rock climbing and rafting. What a lot of adrenaline!
HVCommunity, our community service program, has gotten to work with some terrific local organizations. One of them is P.A.W.S., an animal adoption center in Camden whose mission is to “provide care for homeless dogs and cats until they can be placed in permanent, responsible homes while promoting humane values in our community through outreach and educational programs.” They have also had the opportunity to work with Avian Haven, a wild bird rehabilitation center in Freedom, “dedicated to the return of injured and orphaned wild birds of all species to natural roles in the wild.” In addition, Community-members have been doing trail work on a nearby conservation parcel. How fortunate for them and these local groups to be able to benefit from one another!
That’s it for tonight, humans. Enjoy the pics!
Yours,
CD
