Mad for Science and Lazy Days!!!

Tuesday, August 8th, 2023

Hello hello HVC families!!

Last night we had a sock hop dance complete with a jukebox and funky hairstyles and costumes. Check out the awesome pics below!

Today’s lazy day has been a little *extra* lazy because it’s such a schvitz-y and gray day. We’re still finding plenty of ways to have fun but remaining indoors to stay warm and dry. This morning we woke up a little later and took some time to clean the cabins. And then… Mad Science visited us to share some cool experiments and teach us new things!! There were plenty of bubbling potions, chemical reactions, and even fire!

In the afternoon, cabins had a slightly longer rest period which included visits from the cabin inspectors who were tax collectors searching for Snackbeard the Pirate who had committed tax evasion (congrats to Avalon for cleanest cabin!). We then gathered in the rec hall to watch The Incredibles. Some folks brought blankets and sleeping bags to keep it nice and cozy, while others brought snacks!

This evening after a fabulous pizza dinner we (once again) gathered in the rec hall for the evening program, which was Valleyfest!! Valleyfest is HVC’s version of a talent show that we host every session! Our fabulous MCs Chad and Brad guided us through a night of singing and dancing, skits and impressions, and even a can of beans and a pie were featured.

One more thing… an update from Alive! Hidden Valley Alive is a teen program that focuses on both studio and performing arts. This creative crew has been busy with activities in and out of camp including taking screen printing and paper-making classes, going on trips out of camp to concerts, plays, and beautiful natural landmarks, and preparing for their end-of-session exhibition and performance. Check out the pics below!

That’s all for now but stay tuned for more updates tomorrow!
