Lobsters, Pine Grove, and Goodbyes

Thursday, July 21st, 2022

Good morning HVC Families!

It’s great to see some of your smiling faces driving through camp today to pick up campers.

Session 1 has been nothing short of a resounding success and total blast! Campers and counselors (and gophers) were all sad to see the four weeks come to an end.

Campers finished their session with the famous Lobster Banquet and closing Pine Grove ceremony, which was the perfect end to the perfect camp experience.

After evening meeting, campers headed to the dining hall with their cabins to feast on a brilliant meal prepared by Mike and the dining hall crew, who did an incredible job with the lobsters, spanakopita and chicken parm.

Following dinner, Ben and Jerry’s ice cream was personally delivered to each cabin by Meg and AWAC Cece, both dressed as cows, for an udder-ly delicious dessert.

Finally, campers headed to Pine Grove for the closing ceremony, where each cabin prepared something to share with the camp. Some cabins sang songs and others talked about camp memories.

Meg and Peter led “Oh, How Lovely is the Evening” in a three part round and had the entire camp unified in song.

Other songs featured were “Home,” by Phillip Phillips, “Don’t Stop Belivin’,” by Journey, “Princess Pat,” and “Because I came to HVC.”

To conclude Pine Grove, each camper and counselor were given a candle, and the opportunity to tap candles or give a hug to each other to say a final goodbye to everyone on camp. Goodbyes were difficult, but also indicative of an unforgettable experience.

Today, campers headed out on buses headed home, are being picked up, or are patiently awaiting next session.

While it was sad to see them go-pher a little while, we’re all excited to see them again next year and can’t wait to welcome the Session 2 crew in just a couple of days.

XOXO,

Gopher Girl
