Bowling and Dinos??? Must Be a Lazy Day!

Friday, June 30th, 2023

Hey HVC!

Yesterday electives graced us with a beautiful opportunity to explore our individual passions and interests. Among the options were capture the flag, pretending to be trees, and poetry!

Today we had a fantastic lazy day! Lazy days are when we take a break from classes, sleep in a bit, do a (not-so-lazy) cabin clean, hang out by the pool, and just relax. On most lazy days, the older or younger half will take a trip. Today while the younger half had a dinosaur-themed day in the backyard, the older half went bowling! Bermuda Triangle, Camelot, Valhalla, Chateau Fiasco, Forbidden Planet, Fiddler’s Green, Shangri-La, Taj Mahal, Haley’s Comet, and Community impressed us all with their bowling skills. Our great day was topped off with a delicious taco dinner. After dinner, the campers enjoyed a performance by the Half Moon Jug Band!

Tomorrow we go back to our classes! More details to come. For now, check out our pics below (including some from electives last night)!

In Puddles We Splashed and We Dress Mismatched

Thursday, June 29th, 2023

Welcome back!

Another schvitzy (rainy) day here in Freedom, Maine…but that doesn’t stop us from having fun!!! It can even create new ways to have fun like puddle painting.

So much is happening all around camp! Campers who take horse riding lessons have been assigned their horses, the musical and play have been cast, campers are sporting the glass beads they made, and camp road is full of tire marks made from mountain biking classes.

Last night was Llamapalooza!!! At this classic evening program, cabins participated in many outdoor activities: Blind Clay Sculpting, the Booty Box Bounce, Water Balloon Toss, Dizzy Bat, and MORE! Campers pulled out their athletic and creative skills to compete in silly competitions.

Don’t be surprised by swimsuits over shirts or mismatched socks in today’s photos because it’s DRESS IN THE DARK DAY!!!

The variety never stops at HVC because tonight is Electives. Check back into tomorrow to hear all about it!

First Day

Wednesday, June 28th, 2023

Hey you guys! Camp is in swing!!

Yesterday, we dove into the first day of classes as the ropes course, fields and barns, studios, rec hall and waterfront came to life with campers under the guidance of our eager staff.

From morning meetings featuring our favorite funky traditions to tractor distributed snack, cozy rest hour and lively backyard fuzzy time, our daily routines are taking shape.

After afternoon snack, our first robust assortment of interest groups took place – catering to hobbies of all kinds including different sports games, friendship-bracelet making, puddle-painting and dining with donkeys!

After dinner, each cabin enjoyed bonding time in an array of activities organized by our hard-working counselors for cabin night ranging from baking and campfires to studio arts and waterfront fun.

Tonight, we’re gearing up our excitement for the one and only Llamapalooza! Staff are working to prepare a memorable and spirited night featuring super fun, semi-competitive activities like tic-tac-toe frisbee, blind clay sculpting, dizzy bat and water-balloon toss.

The sun may come and go, but our enthusiasm is unwavering ✨

Talk soon!

Classes!

Lions and Tigers and CLASSES! Oh My!

Tuesday, June 27th, 2023

Hello there!!!

Happy first day of classes! From the pottery studio to the archery range to the lake, camp is full of learning and fun.

Last night was Pinegrove. You’ll notice that there are no photos of Pinegrove included in this post because Pinegrove is a completely technology free zone. At Pinegrove we don’t take pictures to create a camp-centered evening program where everyone is fully present. Each cabin performed or led the entire camp in a song around the fire at the top of The Hill. Peformances included The Princess PatAmerican Pie, and Riptide.

Tonight is cabin night! For this evening program, each cabin does their own activity. It’s a camp classic and a great way to create community and memories within each cabin. Be sure to check back at the blog post tomorrow to read about what each cabin did.

Happy camping!
