Electives and Adventures!

Saturday, July 31st, 2021

Sadie checking in on another gorgeous (and chilly) day at HVC!

Yesterday morning, classes continued as normal. Campers dove into their class projects which were exciting to see during my morning strolls!

Last night’s evening program we had a camp favorite: Electives! Of course, we llamas went all out and had many activities that campers could choose from. There was so much to do that I could barely keep up with it all! We had some classic activities like capture the flag, tipi zip, and laughing with the llamas. And what is an elective night without some neat art projects? Some campers chose to create cool geo-rocks, fantastic french fusing, splatter painting at the Treehouse, and flower pressing with glass. Some campers also attempted to find Bigfoot. I can thankfully say that no bigfoots were found on camp property. There were so many more activities happening that we all can’t wait for our next elective night!

Meanwhile, our AWACs got a break from assisting in cabin life to hang out with each other by the lake. I have to admit it was a nice evening to go for a swim and just relax!

HV Alive, our advanced teen program, traveled off property to view a participatory performance presented by Bates Dance Company. This neat performance called Funerals for the Ocean addressed the global climate crisis, rising sea levels, and many more issues. We all enjoyed participating in this wonderful performance!

Be sure to peep the photos of the day below.

Till next time Sadie the Llama is out.

HVC Olympics

Friday, July 30th, 2021

Sadie here reporting on our Olympic-filled lazy day yesterday!

Here at HVC, we celebrated the spirit of the Tokyo Olympics by putting it on with our own llama twist.

The HVC games included many cool games like naming categories, bouncing ping pong balls into buckets, balancing books on your head, and tossing frisbees onto plates. Meanwhile, in Deer Meadows Field our older half (Bermuda Triangle, Forbidden Planet, Shangri La, Fiddler’s Green, Haley’s Comet, Taj Mahal) were throwing rings onto bowling pins and participated in a soccer ball obstacle course. After running around the Olympics we cooled down with some pool activities.

And of course…no Olympics is complete without a closing day concert! The talented Kim and Reggie came to perform some camp classics like “Turn the World Around” and “High Over the Hudson”. Our amazing teen program, Alive, even came up on stage to help them sing. It was a great way to end this amazing lazy day!

Be sure to peep the photos of HVC’s Olympics and Kim and Reggie below.

Till next time,

Llamapaloooooza!

Thursday, July 29th, 2021

Hello world, Sadie here!

Reporting in on this wonderful lazy lazy day to catch you up on all things llama and all things palooza!

Last night, after a lovely meal of stir-fry, dumplings (& fortune cookies!) we all headed to different areas of camp for the world-renowned, wacky, wonderful LLAMAPALOOZA! In Deer Meadows field, the Older Half cabins (Bermuda Triangle, Forbidden Planet, Shangri-La, Fiddler’s Green, Haley’s Comet and Taj Mahal) and the Middle Half cabins (Gimmie Shelter, Paquatahnee, Camelot and Valhalla) got silly with blind llama sculpting and a water balloon toss. There was also dizzy bat, where you spin around a few times and then race with a cup of water on your head! Finishing up the rotation was the famous booty bounce, tic tac toe with frisbees, and the elephant march (check out the pictures below). Everyone was showing off amazing Llamapalooza skills!

Meanwhile, in the backyard, the Younger Half cabins (Loons, Avalon, Wombles and French Quarter), also played rounds of dizzy bat, blind clay sculpting, water ballon toss, and the elephant march. They finished it off with an epic game of counselor ninja, and Liam (in Avalon) came out on top!

I’ll report back with all the lazy day deets tomorrow!

Signing off,

Sadie the Llama

First Day of Classes…Hooray!

Wednesday, July 28th, 2021

Sadie here once again!

After dinner last night every cabin enjoyed each other’s company, relaxing and watching a movie. Boy did it feel great jumping into this new calm and it sure did feel wonderful! Camp is all about the people (or the llamas) and our relationships with each other. I can’t tell you how good it felt to see their friendships back in action!

What a gorgeous day at HVC to kickstart our classes. Today we woke up to an egg bar breakfast and a lot of excited campers! A long-awaited day! We have campers designing mosaics and stained glass projects, jumping in the pool, swinging tennis rackets, rocking out in a rock band, and so much more! We even have some cabins on the ropes course “hanging” out. And some in the glass blowing studio creating some cool pieces. Oh, I can’t forget the Snack-tor which serves up tasty goodies each day. There are so many cool classes offered that I can barely hold my own excitement!

Llamapalooza has returned once again for tonight’s evening program! Cabins will be rotating through different activities together. There will be water balloons flying, blind clay sculpting, and so much more! It’s going to be a WICKED good time! I can’t wait to tell you more about it tomorrow!

Check out the pictures of a few classes below!

Till next time, Sadie the Llama signing out.
