Hello, there!! Humming Bird here! I’ve just slipped away from our arrival activities to send you all a quick update about our busy day!!

We are all super excited here at Hidden Valley to be receiving campers who have arrived by car! Our Super Greeters are standing out, greeting cars as they roll in on Camp Road, and calling out the cabins of the cars’ camper occupants! Counselors from each cabin who are hanging out in the front yard run over to their campers’ cars and hop in to show families to their campers’ new summer residences!

Meanwhile in the front yard, campers and counselors who are already settled in are playing music by the swinging bench, making colorful nametags, and working on their first beautiful friendship bracelets of the season! There are games of cards, soccer, tetherball and frisbee going on all over camp!

Our fabulous kitchen staff prepared a deliciously tasty lunch featuring vegan chocolate chip cookies, for our newly arrived campers, adoring parents and energetic staff, so we can enjoy a full day of introductions, bonding games, and general excitement here within our rapidly-growing camp community!

I’m off to play some more name games with my energetic campers! Keep an eye out for a post from Olive Oyl about tonight’s Opening Night Skits… I can’t give too much information, but I hear it’s supposed to be “out of this world!” (But you didn’t hear that from me!)

Ta-ta for now!!

Howdy, friends, Humming Bird here!! We’ve been busy today finishing up our preparation for arrival day tomorrow, when all of our energetic campers will– you guessed it!– arrive here at camp!

The counselors and newly assigned AWACs are busy making bunk signs, welcome posters, chore charts, mail boxes and more!! Camp is a HUM (get it? I’m Humming Bird!) with excitement to receive our first campers late tonight, and the rest tomorrow!

All day the counselors have been cheerfully cleaning bunks and bathrooms camp-wide, making sure our cabins are in tip-top shape for the campers to live in all month! We’ve assigned our bunks, making sure new and returning campers alike are spread evenly throughout the cabin, so every camper is equally a part of the cabin, and

All of our cabins’ decorations follow the theme our creative counselors have come up with! We have…

The Avalon aliens

The Loons creepy crawlies

The LCH superheroes

The Wombles wonder-girls

The Valhalla vikings

The Gimme Shelter birds of prey

The Fiddlers Green fearless fiddlers

The Deer Meadows door meadows

The Shangri La outer space ladies

The Camelot secret agents

The French Quarter fireflies

The Paquatahnee pixies

The Wabanaki gnomes

The Halley’s Comet unicorns

The Taj Mahal greek godesses

The Community spirit animals

The Bermuda Triangle adventures out there

The Forbidden Planet forbitten kittens

The Chateau Fiasco creatures of the shadows: the jungle

The Down Under disco

Sleep tight, friends!! We’ve got a big, big day tomorrow!!

Beautiful Meg’s planet

Hi, friends! Olive Oyl here with lots of beautiful photos and some updates for you!

It’s a beautiful day here at Hidden Valley, and we’ve got meetings and priorities in full swing until lunchtime, after which we’ll be off for the day. Hooray!

We had an incredible evening last night with the Staff Talent Show, MC-ed by our lovely shift heads, who were on a mission to find the Blob! We had two talent agents and two paranormal investigators on the hunt for the elusive Blob, which was discovered at the end of the night thanks to the help of our many Blob dancers. In the search for the Blob, we encountered many talented acts along the way, like beautiful singing and guitar, poetry readings, juggling, and a fabulous skit by the PDs that acted out two months of camp in just a few minutes. It was a night full of laughter and lovely music, an amazing showcase of the myriad talent that our staff has to offer for the summer ahead.

Things are picking up in our new areas over camp, like the glass blowing studio (called the Beehive), where Carmi has been training some staff on the wonderful art form that is glass blowing. We can’t wait to share this awesome new activity with campers throughout the summer.

Co-counselors are continuing to prep for camper arrival–getting to know one another and coming up with cabin themes and daily schedules. It’s a super exciting time as we await for our cabins to fill up.

Be sure to check out photos of the new beehive plus staff talent show pictures to come tomorrow!
